Annual Scientific Meeting 2013

The Annual Scientific Meeting of the Northern Ireland Obstetric Ultrasound Forum is being held in the Linen Suite, Mossley Mill, Newtownabbey on Saturday 5th October 2013. The focus for this event is Obesity in Pregnancy.  We have an exciting and diverse line up of speakers including Angela Bradshaw, a UK expert in the Alexander Technique for ultrasound scanning; Dr Aly Hunter talking about the assessment and management of risk of women with obesity; Janet Calvert from the Public Health Agency highlighting an innovative regional project entitled ‘weigh to a healthy pregnancy’ and Dr Ganesh Sivasankara, anaesthetist, discussing development of a high risk pre-operative assessment clinic.  There will also be our usual case presentations and ‘spot the diagnosis’ ultrasound imaging.

We have extended the deadline for case study/poster presentation submission to Friday 20 September 2013 to the secretary  c.h.hughes@qub.ac.uk.  Please find attached a  call for abstracts for either case study or poster.

This event is directed to Sonographers, Midwives and Obstetricians.

To secure your place at the Scientific Day – please send the attached application form with a cheque for £40 to Mrs Fiona Jackson, c/o X Ray Department, Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, Belfast, BT16 1RH.by Friday 20 September (for catering purposes).

2nd Annual Scientific Meeting (2011) – Review

We held our 2nd Annual Scientific Meeting on Sat 7th Nov  2011 in Lagan Valley Hospital Conference Suite. (N.Ireland). Over 100 delegates attended . Speakers included Dr Shane McKee (Cons.Geneticist) , Prof. Paul Griffiths ( Cons. Neuro Radiologist), Dr David McAuley (Cons. Neurosurgeon) and our keynote speaker  was  Dr Rhona Mahony ( Cons in Fetal Medicine) who spoke in depth about ‘Fetal head and spine abnormalities’. Other topics covered were genetics of the head and spine, fetal MRI, paediatric neurosurgery, SHINE  ( new name for ASBAH ) a parent’s perspective. Dr Samina  Mahsud-Dornan (Cons. Obstetrician ) provided a spot diagnosis session. Case studies were presented and posters displayed with a prize for the best.

NIOUF held our first Annual Scientific meeting on Sat 20th November 2010 in Lagan Valley Hospital Conference Suite (N.I).Over 120 delegates attended .Our keynote speaker was Professor Trish Chudleigh who spoke in detail about 18 to 20+6 weeks fetal anomaly screening protocol. Dr Frank Casey(RBHSC) provided a live fetal cardiac scanning session in the afternoon.Other topics covered on the day were ‘Cleft lip and palate symposium’,this included Ultrasound diagnosis,care , management and surgery.Dr Ong (RBHSC) provided a ‘Spot Diagnosis’ session.Case studies were presented  and posters displayed with a prize for the best.
